Metrology
is very important for the society, the industry, the commercial
organisms and the institutions. The quality of products can be
ensured via precise, sure and reliable measurements and controls.
This is also the aim of «legal metrology» whose
object is the establishment, the essential laws and regulations
on scientific bases, in order to ensure the validity of measurements
regarding the commercial deals so as to be international commercial
reliance.
The units of measurement, the conditions of measurement, as
well as the tolerances that are in effect in every case according
to each law.
The cost of measurement is proportional to the desirable precision.
It’s result is the appearance of a «pyramid», in top of which
international organisms which provide the biggest possible precision
in measurements, followed by national institutes are found.
Lower on issues of quality measurement are found the various
metrological laboratories, while the base of the «pyramid» constitute
the metrical units that are used in the industries.
Specifically in industry the metrication allows the application
of certain models aiming at the regrouping and the collaboration
of mechanic parts, the control of quality of used raw materials,
the inspection of production processes and mainly the guarantee
of the quality of final products.
Industries direct gain from the above processes is the reduction
of cost via the reduction of produced defective products, accidents
as well as interruptions of operation, because of the existence
stable and qualitative, productive processes.
The indirect profit is the disposal in the purchase of products
of ensured quality that creates relations of confidence with
the customers.
The extension of commercial transactions of enterprises from
local to the international henceforth market, because of the
globalisation, has made still more imperative the need of the
existence of single systems of units as well as the existence
of international models, which will ensure the quality of production
processes and it’s products, worldwide.
According to all of these, we may conclude that obviously there
is a need of existence and growth of science of metrology, not
only in a local but also in an international level.
